TFF Global Diaspora Community
Discover where Turkish football fans live across the world and build community chapters in every country they call home
The names are made up. The campaigns and results are real.
Overview
Turkey's footballing diaspora is one of the largest in the world. Over 6 million Turkish citizens live abroad, concentrated in Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK, and the United States. When the national team plays, cafes in Berlin erupt, living rooms in Rotterdam shake, and barbershops in London stop cutting. But the Turkish Football Federation has almost no structured data on these communities. They don't know how many fans are in each city, what language they prefer communications in, whether they'd attend an official watch party, or what kind of community structure they'd join.
Game Set Engage surveys give the TFF a way to actually map its global diaspora. Fans earn engagement points for completing detailed surveys about their location, preferences, and willingness to participate in local chapters. The result is a country-by-country, city-by-city map of the fan base, and the foundation for building official supporter chapters, securing local venue partnerships, and attracting international sponsors who want to reach the Turkish diaspora market.
Example Scenario
Ay-Yildizlilar, the TFF's official global supporters community (195,000 members across 60+ countries), launches a "Neredesin?" (Where Are You?) survey campaign ahead of the World Cup qualifying cycle. The 25-question survey covers: current city and country, preferred language (Turkish, English, German, or local language), willingness to lead or join a local chapter, preferred venue type for watch parties, and interest in official merchandise shipped internationally.
Fans earn 150 points for completing the survey, enough to bid on a signed national team training top in the next auction. Over six weeks, 128,000 members respond (66% completion rate). The data reveals concentrations the federation never quantified: 34,000 fans in Germany (clustered in Berlin, Munich, Cologne, and Frankfurt), 12,000 in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague), 9,500 in the UK (London and Manchester), 8,200 in the United States (New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles), and 6,800 in France (Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon).
Armed with the data, Ay-Yildizlilar establishes 45 official city chapters in the first year, each led by a volunteer identified through the survey. The federation secures venue partnerships in 30 cities for World Cup qualifying matches. A global telecoms brand targeting the Turkish-speaking diaspora signs a $320,000 sponsorship deal, using the survey's geographic and language data to plan localised campaigns in 12 countries. The federation credits the survey with transforming its international supporter programme from a mailing list into a structured, data-driven global community.
